When a professional racing driver joins a new team to drive a new (to him/her) car, one of the first things he/she does is a seat fitting. This is not for the purpose of "creature comfort", it is an essential key element of the preparation toward achieving the best performance from car and driver.

It's essential that a drivers limbs; arms-hands, legs-feet, are free to control his/her car without compromise. For that reason it's essential that a drivers body is securely located in the seat. If you have to brace yourself against any part of your car with any one of those limbs, your ability to control your car effectively is seriously compromised! Without any doubt the best way to achieve this is with a race seat and harness. In a competition car this is achieved (in the case of a single-seater or prototype sports car) by use of a bespoke, moulded two-pack foam seat and a five-point harness, or (in the case of a touring or GT racing car) a race seat and five-point harness.

Apart from the physical inconvenience of a race seat and harness in a road car, the cost is also restrictive... a full race seat and harness costing at least £300 colllectively, at the lower end of the market.

I have recently tested the CG-Lock and I can honestly say it is the best alternative to a race seat and full harness! It works by locking the lap-strap part of your seat belt and therefore "locking" your pelvis (and so, your centre of gravity) in place. This allows you to use your hands and feet to control your car, and seriously improves your ability to do so. Therefore the CG-Lock is a very effective (and cost effective) "bolt-on" performance accessory! If you don't want or need the expense or inconvenience of a full race seat and harness and you use your car for track days or performance road driving... you need a CG-Lock!
